I am interested in a home, 1652 sq. ft with pool in nice neighborhood, they are asking $139.9K…according to zillow.com the assesed value is $107K…Just wondering what kind of offer I should make? I think that the 130’s are way too high, but was wondering if they would think I am trying to low-ball if I offered like $120K?
I know someone who bought a 2450 sq. ft house in the same neighborhood with pool for less than $130K…
What are your thoughts?

Were Property Taxes In Indiana Lowered To 1% Of The Home’s Value?

I know that there was talk about a cap on Indiana’s property taxes of 1 percent of the homes value. Does anyone know if that was ever passed? Our taxes have still not been assessed for 2008 and I was hoping that they would go down.

I was planning to sell the house when I first got into the 5/1 arm but home prices went down, I was stuck. the 5 year is up and rates went up. I lost my job and can’t make the higher payments, I talk with the loan company and they say my dept is to high and the home value is too low for refinancing. What am I to do?

What Factors Determine A Home’s Value When It Is Appaised?

Attempting to buy a relative’s home ~ but the home & property (5acres) was appraised for $30,000. less than the asking price.
Relative was upset, because the house was appraised 5yrs ago at $10,000. OVER the current appraisal value ~ and that number was for the house alone, didn’t include the value of the land it is sitting on.
Although the appraisal is lower than the original asking price, due to circumstances (which are too complicated to go into here) it would have been better for all parties if the appraisal was not so low.
Has anyone had this experience? The realtor stated that part of the problem is that property in this area is not selling well ~ but does that play a huge factor in the value of a home?
Also, the home is older, being sold “as is” & does need some maintenence~ but there are new homes nearby on 1/4 acre lots being sold for 1.5 times the amount this house was just appraised for. Does age/condition of the home matter that much?

window. we were thinking about replacing it with a stained glass window. it is small as in maybe 24 inches by 30 inches. would making an improvement like this be worth it as far as home value is concerned? this window is visible when standing in parts of the living room. my general guess is it would add more charm to a house which is already pretty charming (great architecture and lots of dark old molding) is it worth it?
