What Is A Reasonable Price For An In-home Art Appraisal?

Author: Rob  //  Category: Q&A

I have a Peter Max mixed media that I would like to have appraised. Has anyone had an in-home art appraisal done, and what did you pay? Thanks.

NEVER set up an in home appraisal ,unless you KNOW THE APPRAISER.There are a lot of SCAMS where two people show up to ROB YOU.Find a reputable appraiser and take the painting to them. Now remember what it appraises at is not what you will get for the painting.Good luck.

IF YOU OWN A GENUINE PETER MAX, THEN THE VALUE OF IT WILL BE SO HIGH YOU COULD BUY A NEW HOME WITH IT, AN APPRAISAL MAY COST YOU A COOL $600.00, “PAY IT” BUT GET A LETTER OF YOUR APPRAISERS OPINION THAT IT IS AUTHENTIC. THEN GTE ANOTHER APPRAISAL WITH THE SAME CRITERIA AND GET THE SAME RESULT. THEN GO TO CHRISTIES OR SOUTHEBY’S AND PUT IT UP FOR AUCTION, IT SHOULD FETCH NEAR A MILLION.

I will probably run somewhere around $150+, $100-300 should be a good range, some will charge more or course. I really doubt you can get a good in home appraisal for under $100, but I would refuse to pay more than $250
